GRS News India : Kolkata, 1st. February, 2026. In a meaningful step towards inclusive education and community empowerment, the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata, in association with the Lions Club of Kolkata IEM and the Lions Club of Salt Lake IEM, on Saturday launched Project Diksha, a social outreach initiative aimed at enhancing English communication and basic computer skills among underprivileged children.
The programme was inaugurated at IEM Management House, Kolkata, with the participation of 25 children, marking the beginning of a structured, long-term educational intervention. Classes under Project Diksha will be conducted every weekend and will be offered completely free of cost, ensuring accessibility for students from economically weaker sections.
Speaking at the launch, Prof. Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director, IEM–UEM Group, said the initiative reflects IEM’s commitment to social responsibility alongside academic excellence. He emphasised that strong communication skills and digital literacy are essential to bridging the digital divide and preparing children for future academic and professional challenges.
The initiative is being actively supported by the Lions Club of Kolkata IEM. Its President, Prof. Dr. Prabir Kumar Das, highlighted the importance of collaborative community efforts and noted that Project Diksha seeks to provide guidance, resources and confidence to children who need them the most. He also appreciated the voluntary involvement of IEM faculty members and students who have come forward as mentors.
Project Diksha focuses on building self-confidence, language proficiency and basic computer literacy at an early stage, laying a strong foundation for holistic development.
