Staff Reporter : Kolkata, November 4, 2026: Somewhere in 2016, the erstwhile owner, ANANT MEDIA PVT. LTD., transferred all IPs, title, employees and operational assets to TEHELKA.COM PRIVATE LIMITED. The management of ANANT MEDIA PVT. LTD. will fight all previous litigations and pursue them. ANANT MEDIA confirmed to the management of TEHELKA.COM PRIVATE LIMITED that they will have nothing to do with the ongoing cases, litigations, liabilities or any adverse legacy-related problem or issue. Also, any undertaking or guarantees will not be binding on TEHELKA.COM PRIVATE LIMITED. ANANT MEDIA has sole responsibility for all the above matters.
Sadly, due to this, TEHELKA.COM PRIVATE LIMITED also lost access to all the archives and past footage and old copies. They have also lost all the previous videos, previous stories, most of the intellectual properties and all other information relating to history.
Thereafter, somewhere in 2017, the entire shareholding of TEHELKA.COM PRIVATE LIMITED was purchased by a group of investors. The investors also successfully gave an exit to TARUN TEJPAL and other minor investors. There have been no fresh litigations since their takeover. They also confirmed no involvement in any capacity of TARUN TEJPAL in TEHELKA or its operations.
Recently, in October 2026, Sanmarg Group completed 100 percent acquisition of TEHELKA.COM PRIVATE LIMITED from these investors, along with all assets therein, both print, digital and IP since 2017.
Sanmarg Group is committed to preserving the rich heritage of TEHELKA and surpassing its past glory. We have decided to invest further in Tehelka.com and restore its glory, honour and prestige, and also dedicate ourselves to the highest levels and standards of journalism, investigative stories, and the highest levels of integrity, trust and credibility in the stories that TEHELKA will publish, both in print and digital formats.
With the acquisition of TEHELKA, SANMARG PRIVATE LIMITED marks its entry into the magazine space and further consolidates its position in the online and digital space.
One thing that we actually inherited in this process was the commitment to the 276 founders of TEHELKA who formed the cradle and rock. They are our lifetime subscribers, who were also the founder members. We intend to fully honour these commitments, and those lifetime subscribers shall continue to receive copies and digital subscription access, as applicable. We thank them for reposing their faith in us. There may have been some disruption in the past, but to the best of our knowledge, publication was continuous, and we now intend to make it from a fortnightly to a weekly publication. We look forward to engaging with each one of them and shaping our shared vision of excellence in journalism, the reason these people came together to support TEHELKA.
We also want to fully comply with all government rules and regulations, and all applicable rules, standards and regulations as they stand today, to make a meaningful experience of serious journalism for the Indian public and for people globally who are interested in qualitative journalism.
