Bengal Across Borders: Antorik Celebrates Durga Puja with Tradition and Togetherness…

Grs news india: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 29th October, 2026 : Thousands of miles from Kolkata, the traditions, textures and flavours of Bengal came together at Antorik’s Durga Puja celebrations on October 24 and 25, 2026. Held at Nova Banquet Hall in Pittsburgh, the two-day festival combined worship, cultural performances, authentic Bengali cuisine and charitable giving in a celebration of heritage and community.

This year’s theme, “Gram Bangla,” or rural Bengal, shaped the festival’s distinctive décor. Jute, fabric, straw, traditional winnowing trays, hand fans and the ektara drew on the familiar materials and objects of village life. Alpona patterns and folk-inspired details completed a setting that evoked Bengal’s rural traditions.

Led by Purbasha, the decoration team brought the theme to life through a thoughtful use of traditional elements. For community members living far from Bengal, the setting offered reminders of home. For children growing up in the United States, it provided an opportunity to discover the crafts and visual traditions of their heritage.

A varied cultural programme added energy to the celebrations. Dance, music and group performances featured participants across age groups, showcasing local talent and the community’s continuing commitment to Bengali arts. Under the guidance of Cultural Secretary Upasana Kumar, the programme encouraged creative expression and gave younger performers an opportunity to engage with their cultural inheritance.

Authentic Bengali food was another highlight. The menu featured bhapa ilish, katla kalia, mutton kosha and shukto, bringing the familiar flavours of a Bengali festive meal to the celebration. Overseen by Kaushik Kundu, the food arrangements added to the atmosphere of warmth and togetherness, making the festival feel closer to home.

The organising effort was led by President Abhijit Makhal, Secretary Aritra Das, Vice President Arijit Mukherjee, Treasurer Abhishek Bhattacharya and Cultural Secretary Upasana Kumar. Moumita Goswami managed outreach, while Mekhla Kar handled social media. Arunita oversaw the puja arrangements, and Suman Ray managed logistics. Alongside Purbasha, Kaushik Kundu and a dedicated team of volunteers, they brought together the many elements of the festival.

Antorik also extended the spirit of the celebration through donations to people in need. Coordinated by Tapajit, the charitable initiative reflected the organisation’s commitment to combining cultural celebration with care for others.

The spirit of Antorik’s Durga Puja reaches beyond a single city. Through village-inspired décor, Bengali music and dance, familiar flavours and the warmth of celebration, it reflects the emotional and cultural connections that unite Bengalis across the United States. By helping younger generations connect with their roots and sharing Bengal’s traditions with the wider community, Antorik contributes to the broader effort to keep Bengali heritage alive across America. This year’s celebration embodied that spirit, bringing together tradition, creativity and compassion far from home.
